Meeting with Al Omrane Group in Marrakech – 29.05.2024
Honorable Moses Kunkuyu, the Minister of Information and Digitization of Malawi, held a pivotal meeting with the Regional General Manager of the Al Omrane Group in Marrakech to discuss the development of Mvera Smart City in Malawi. The proposed partnership between Malawi and Al Omrane Group aims to leverage Al Omrane’s expertise in smart city development to transform Mvera into a hub of technological and infrastructural innovation. This project is expected to set a foundation for Malawi’s digital and infrastructural growth, ensuring the country is better equipped for the future.


Meeting with Morgan Stanley – 29.05.2024
On the sidelines of the GITEX 24 Expo, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu met with representatives from Morgan Stanley to discuss potential investments in Malawi’s digitization efforts. The Minister emphasized Malawi’s focus on promoting e-Government solutions across priority sectors such as Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM strategy). Morgan Stanley expressed keen interest in supporting Malawi’s journey towards digital transformation and exploring investment opportunities in the nation’s digital economy. Their investment could boost the country’s economic growth through innovative digital solutions.
Meeting with Microsoft – 29.05.2024
During the GITEX 24 Expo, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu also engaged with a representative of Microsoft for Asia and the Middle East. The discussion centered on digitizing Malawi’s government systems, with a focus on the Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining sectors. The Microsoft team encouraged Malawi to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) early to ensure that the country is prepared for the AI revolution. Microsoft expressed interest in investing in the development of AI, software, and other digital solutions in Malawi, highlighting the need for flexible policies and regulations that adapt to the evolving nature of AI.


Meeting with Tricie LohMirmand, GITEX VP – 30.05.2024
The Honourable Minister met with Tricie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President and CEO of GITEX, to express appreciation for Malawi’s second attendance at the expo. During the meeting, Hon. Kunkuyu emphasized the country’s priority to improve internet connectivity, which is essential for the digitization of government systems. The GITEX VP suggested the idea of hosting mini expos in select countries and was encouraged to consider Malawi. The Minister invited GITEX to partner with the Information and Communication Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM) for the upcoming ICT Exhibition in November 2024.
Meeting with Visa – 30.05.2024
Hon. Moses Kunkuyu also met with representatives from Visa, where discussions centered on promoting digital financial solutions in Malawi. Visa expressed interest in supporting the transition to a cashless economy by providing innovative digital money platforms, such as mobile banking and remittance solutions. The Honourable Minister highlighted Malawi’s Social Cash Transfer program, which currently supports over 300,000 beneficiaries. Visa suggested solutions for beneficiary registration and identification, and expressed interest in holding workshops with the Malawian government to explore tailored digital financial solutions.
Meeting with Presight – 31.05.2024
Hon. Moses Kunkuyu met with Francisco Gonsalves, Director and Regional Lead for Africa at Presight, an AI solutions company based in Abu Dhabi. Presight offers advanced data management solutions for governments, particularly in areas such as national ID systems and smart cities. During the meeting, Presight presented its AI-driven solutions, which could help Malawi consolidate its government data, improve national security, and manage vital infrastructure. Hon. Kunkuyu discussed Malawi’s plans for national ID digitization through the Digital Malawi Project and encouraged Presight to partner in this initiative, leveraging funding opportunities through the Abu Dhabi Export Exchange and collaboration with Microsoft.
